Our story began in Beijing in 2006.
Our journey first started when a friend took us out to a migrant community on the edge of Beijing. One thing led to the next and we eventually started community centers in urban slums in Beijing, Shanghai, Kathmandu, and Dhaka. Our journey has been evolving ever since.

Our Operating Principles
Originality.
We aim to bring unexpected approaches to the table to find breakthroughs on the migrant slum issue. We are motivated to forge a new path, to be compelling. We embrace measured risk.
Simplicity.
We simplify down not to stupidity but down to the essence. We believe simplicity might just be the cure of all evils in this world. It’s the gift to give in this century full of increasing complexity.
Design.
We place a premium on design because it brings dignity and improves quality of life. It highlights that slumdwellers are valuable, deserving more than left-over and second-hand. We give our best.
Ownership.
Every one of us has the power to make our organization better. We practice extreme ownership. “I intend to...” pervades our conversations.
Togetherness.
We are in this together. We rise together. We fall together. A hugely meaningful part of this journey is that we share the journey together.
